Re: Nominations, Special Election, and Notice Requirement

Members of AFSCME Local 127,

         The purpose of this memorandum is to inform you of the upcoming special election to fill vacancies within the Leadership of AFSCME Local 127. In addition, the purpose of this memorandum is to comply with both the requirements of the AFSCME Local 127 Constitution as well as the requirements of the AFSCME Int’l Elections Manual. Notice of this special election will be mailed to you at your last known home address. Further, this memorandum will be emailed to you and will be posted as an article on our website.

The following positions are vacant:

  • Vice President
  • Executive Board Member, Public Utilities Department, City of San Diego
  • Executive Board Member, General Services Department, City of San Diego
  • Executive Board Member, Parks & Recreation Department, City of San Diego
  • Trustee for 1-year term
  • Trustee for 2-year term

         As stated, this is a special election. Nominations and voting on those nominees, or candidates, will occur at the same meeting. To be nominated and to be a candidate for a position in this special election, you must be eligible. The requirements for eligibility are as follows: (1) you must be employed in an agency within the jurisdiction of this local; (2) you must be a member in good standing; (3) you must have been a member in good standing for at least one year immediately preceding the election; and (4) you must not be a retiree of the local. For those nominated and elected to these positions, they shall serve only for the remainder of the unexpired term.

          This special election will occur at the next General Membership Meeting (GMM) of AFSCME Local 127. This GMM is on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 5pm, and you may attend our GMM either virtually or in-person. To access and attend our GMM virtually, you may access the Zoom link under the “Calendar of Events” section of our website. To attend our GMM in-person, you may come to Union Hall, which is located at 3737 Camino Del Rio S., Suite 400, San Diego, CA 92108.

          To reiterate, nominations and voting will occur at our next GMM. In effect, if you attend our GMM in-person, then you may cast your vote at Union Hall; if you attend our GMM virtually, you may cast your vote online via the poll when prompted to do so.

         To assure and preserve the integrity of this special election, AFSCME Local 127 has established an Election Committee. The members of the Election Committee are Tim Douglass, Maico “Mike” Alejo, and Linda Childress. Also, to assure and preserve the integrity of this special election, this GMM will be recorded.
